Finish It Up!

My post will be brief today. The annual fall cold has attacked our house and 4 of us our sick. So far only my 4 year old has been safe from the germs. I just came down with it yesterday, so I still had some time to quilt this week.

I finished 2 of my UFOs! I am so happy to have these done. I have one more from the pile that I showed last week ready for binding. The binding is even made, but the sickness has kept me from the machine. Hopefully this cold is short lived!

My first finished UFO is for my husband. I started this in (I think) 2009 with the intention that it would be his Christmas present. He finally got it on Wednesday night! 3 years, 9 months after I was supposed to have it done. I guess my "time to complete a quilt" is running over 3 years! Yikes!

I am probably the most proud of this UFO! It is my oldest one! I believe I started it in the spring of 2005. My Mom loves bunnies and I wanted to give this to her to put on her Easter table. She might be able to use it this Easter! Just 9 years after I was planning to give it to her! Having this done should really lower my "time to completion" rate!

(This second pic shows the true colors.)

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. We are finally experiencing fall temperatures here in western South Dakota, with highs in the 60s & lows in the 40s. I love this time of year with the trees changing colors! Hopefully it will last for a while before the snow flies. Winter can wait a bit!

Finish It Up Friday

I don't have any finishes to show this week, so I figured I'd show you my works in progress. I'm working on finishing 4 quilts simultaneously for the UFO program at my local quilt store. I have made so many tops and never took the time to quilt them, so I'm hoping to get them done by the end of the month.

Here they are. The four tops that have captured my attention this month. These are all sandwiched for quilting. The top quilt in greens was originally started for a woman I met online who had battled metastatic rectal cancer for nearly 3 years. She passed away quickly last fall (at the far too young age of 35) and I wasn't able to finish it in time. I've decided that now is the time to finish it and hopefully give it to her family, which includes 2 children under the age of 9. I'll make sure to post a picture of it when it is finished.

The Broncos quilt is for me! I have been a crazy Denver Broncos fan for 25 years and last year I decided that I needed a Broncos quilt to snuggle with on game day. I'm finally finishing it to use this season. The fabric showing in the picture is the back. You'll have to wait & see what the front looks like!

The aqua, red & gray quilt is made using "Flirt" by Sandy Gervais. The side you're seeing is the back. I'll be showing you this one next week because it is quilted and just needs binding. I'm excited to get it done!

The red & black quilt is one of my oldest UFOs. I believe I bought it in 2009 with the intention of making it as a Christmas gift for my husband, whose favorite colors are red & black. It came as a kit from Connecting Threads. I love their kits! They provide plenty of fabric, which is not usually the case in kits I've purchased. The back of this one is black minkee and it is about half quilted. I'm quilting it with red thread and it is turning out awesome. Hopefully I'll be showing you this one next week, too!

Life has been very busy for us lately, so sewing has had to wait in the background. We have completed 5 weeks of homeschooling already and yesterday we had our first day of homeschool co-op. We are so blessed to be party of a large homeschooling community! I am a teacher's assistant in 4-year-old preschool and Hands On Science for 3rd & 4th graders. It's fun to be with other students and to see how other kids learn. We have co-op once a week and we are already excited about next week!

We had a surprise this morning for this early in the season - FROST! I couldn't believe it. We are usually warned in the weather forecast about the possibility of frost, but there wasn't any mention of it this time. We woke up this morning and there it was! I keep hearing that we're going to have a colder, snowier winter this year and I wonder how true that is. An early frost certainly points that way! You would never know that it was 93* at mid-day on Wednesday! Crazy. From 93* to 32* in less than 48 hours. I sure hope we get to experience more fall-like temperatures before it goes straight from summer to winter! Our temp today is a fall-like 70*. I can handle that!
